Professor Ron Firestein, an MD/PhD Physician Scientist, is a dual-board-certified Pathologist (Anatomic and Molecular Genetics). Specialising in solid tumour malignancies, he holds 10 patents in cancer therapeutics and has published extensively in top journals (including Nature, Cell, Cancer Cell and J Clin Invest). Prof Firestein earned his MD/PhD from Stanford University through the prestigious Medical Scientist Training Program in 2002, and completed fellowships at Harvard Medical School and the Broad Institute. Leading research and translational teams at Genentech Inc. from 2009-2015, he is currently the Head of the Centre for Cancer Research at Hudson Institute. Prof Firestein also co-leads the Victorian Paediatric Cancer Consortium, uniting institutes, universities and hospitals to advance childhood cancer research and clinical outcomes.
